Duties

The Louisa County Historic Preservation Commission is a Certified Local Government Commission and works to identify, preserve, and protect historic structures. The commission does this by making recommendations to consider properties for historic signage and by working on the identification and designation of historic districts & historic landmarks. The commission may proceed at its own initiative or upon a petition from any person, group or association.

Process

The commission provides signs for historically significant structures in Louisa County. To have a property considered for signage or to report a sign in need of repair or maintenance please contact a commission member directly or contact the County Auditor. The commission works to further the efforts of historic preservation in Louisa County by making recommendations to the Supervisors, City Councils and other boards on preservation issues when appropriate, by encouraging the protection and enhancement of structures with historical, architectural or cultural value, and by encouraging persons and organizations to become involved in preservation activities.
